Picnic Spots Outside Glacier

,

Glacier National Park encompasses over one million acres and has only one road through it which traverses the Continental Divide at Logan Pass. If you are properly prepared, a well timed pull-out stop can make for a spectacular snack with a view spot, but if traffic is heavy it won’t be very peaceful. Here are a couple of ideas for picnic destinations around the park where you can enjoy a little more time with fewer people:

  • Goat Lick Overlook – on the southern edge of the Park, there is a large parking lot, nice pit toilets, and if you are lucky some white mountain goats climbing the steep walls above the Middle fork of the Flathead River
  • Hungry Horse reservoir – from water access spots in the bays to the drive-about mountain top look-outs, there a lots of places to picnic and poke around for Huckleberries
  • Camas Bridge area – not too far up the North Fork road, access the river and get your feet wet, and scan the wetlands for the big wildlife – might get lucky and see a moose

No matter where you are heading for the day, starting with a well-supplied cooler will help you enjoy every minute of it! Stop in and supply up on your way, or order for pick up in advance and save some time.
